Task 1

29/03

Brief

I have spent last lesson on reading this unit's brief and making necessary preparations such as looking for interesting projects and creating this website, which I am going to use in order to keep evidence of my progress.

Basically, the brief enquires us to work on 6 different tasks in the ascending order. Thinking this way, I should not work on other tasks except the current one. In addition, all tasks should be completed in a specific window of time - it is required to finish this unit on/before 9th of June, meaning that we have 10 college weeks for it. Fortunately, we have been provided with a schedule in the brief, so we do not have to create one ourselves.

✓, ✔

I have modified the original table a bit, so now it will show whether I have finished required content on time or not. This way I will be able to keep track of progress, which will allow me to work productively.

First task requires me to write a de-construction of the brief and a proposal for this unit. In other words, I simply have to read the brief and write down my thoughts as I move on and then write what I am going to do in order to pass this unit.

However, it is not everything as this task also requires me to

"document the key information for this project, including

  •  key project targets and milestones

  •  a log of your progress

  •  the problems that you face, and how you solve them

  •  any changes in the project, and the rationale behind them"

Some of those things I can write today, however, some of them are impossible do document now and require me to progress with the unit first; for example I cannot document any problems with my project before starting my project.

Because of that I shall create a table with key targets and progress log now and keep updating it every day. This way I will be able to see which targets I have already met, when I have met them, and which target I should work on. All changes and problems will be described, if they occur, in the corresponding Task page. For example, if I had trouble with my research I would describe that problem, eventual solutions and what I would actually do in the Third Task.

✓, ✔

Second Task is exactly like the First Task. However, there I am asked supposed to de-construt my chosen project and write a proposal for it.

Third Task will ask me to conduct research on a range of sources, while keeping a record of it in a research log and then evaluate my research.

For this task I should look for

  • "supportive information for your project

  • similar or influential work

  • technical guidance

  • artistic inspirations"

I believe that this Task is going to be crucial for my project - I have already noticed, while working on other units, that research is often the most important part, as it introduces you to new ideas, skills, techniqueas and ways of doing and seeing things.

Fourth Task will ask me to document all my planning and ideas for the final product. It will include "sketches, concept drawings, maps, storyboards, lighting plans, sales sheets, scripts, test shots, test renders, and any other form of plannning that is used in your chosen area of creative media production".

Fifth Task will ask me to produce the final product/piece/pieces and document this process.

Sixth Task will ask me to review how well I have met the brief, how well I have used available tools to communicate my ideas.

Problem

As I have de-constructed the brief and kept updating this very page, I have found out that I made a mistake - I did not have to de-construct this very page but to de-construct a chosen brief.

Even though, it is a quite embarassing mistake to make, I believe that de-constructing this brief was a good thing to do. This happy accident allowed to understand this unit better than I did before. On the other hand, I could use this time on something I should actually do.
